The George pub in Bethersden was purchased with the help of the Ashford Borough Council, Bethersden Parish Council, the Plunkett Foundation, and Damian Green MP.
A share offer was launched in November 2022 which raised £300k in a few weeks. The purchase was completed in February 2023 with part-matched funding from the Government's Community Ownership Scheme. The community plans to refurbish, reopen, regenerate, and protect the pub for future generations. All profits generated from the pub will be reinvested back into the community.
