We set out a plan for Ashford, we stuck with it – and it’s paying off.
From creating a new Ashford College to turning the derelict Newtown Works into a film studio – and helping protect the Kent countryside, together we have done good things for Ashford. But what happens next comes down to your vote.
Every election is the same. The media want to focus on Westminster. The rest of us want to focus on home. That’s why I’ve worked with local people, businesses and community groups to get action on our shared priorities.
We all want to see safer streets in our town centres and the villages. So I have worked with Kent’s Police and Crime Commissioner to make sure Kent has more police than ever before, and Ashford, Hawkinge and the Downs get their fair share.
We all want to see better local transport links. So I am working hard to persuade Eurostar to return the international services from Ashford. I succeeded before when they re-opened the Ashford-Brussels service, and I am glad to be working with Ashford Borough Council and Kent County Council on this important project.
Together we’ve made real progress. But we haven’t finished our plan. As an officer of Protect Kent (the CPRE), I want to see solar power panels on buildings, not on prime farmland. I want to see local people trained up to take the exciting opportunities for jobs in the Newtown studios when they start up. We’ve got work to do. I’m
asking you to use your vote to make sure we get the job done.
You’ve seen the polls. You’ve heard the commentators. You know who they say is likely to win the national election. And Keir Starmer thinks the result is already in his bag, taking your support for granted. He wants you to hand him a huge majority – giving him a blank cheque when he still hasn’t told you what he will do with it or how much it’ll cost you.
But your vote means more than that. Your vote is about what happens locally – to our home and your family. We’ve made real progress over the last few years, and we’re not finished yet. I want to see our plan through. And if you do too, then I’m asking you to vote for it.
So, if you want to keep up the progress we’re making locally, with a clear plan to secure the future for our country and our local community – and you don’t want to risk handing Keir Starmer a blank cheque – I’m asking for your support and your vote on Thursday 4th July.
